Shopping at Coligny Plaza

Hilton Head Island has two “downtown” locations – areas of shopping, dining, and hubs of festivals and music.  They are Shelter Cove Towne Plaza and Coligny Plaza – and they’ll both claim they are the true “downtown.” Both are great so there’s no need to debate. Today, we’re diving deep into Coligny Plaza and all that it has to offer both our tourists and locals alike.  Here are our musts when visiting Coligny Plaza.

First – some history. 67 years ago, Coligny Plaza was founded by Norris Richardson. Before the bridge that connects the mainland to Hilton Head Island, Norris started the first market store on South Forest Beach and one by one, service and products followed.  Soon, it included a bakery, hair salon, clothing store, the first real estate office, and the first pharmacy. Today, it’s owned by the Richardson Family who have committed themselves to serving Hilton Head Island and are strong stewards of its growth.  67 years later, Coligny Plaza is still an epicenter for shopping, dining, entertainment, and essentials.  Here’s what we love now about Coligny Plaza!

#1: Ice Cream at The Frozen Moo

By far and away, The Frozen Moo is THE place to go for ice cream on Hilton Head. With 92 flavors, no one has a greater selection of flavors than The Moo. The vibrant, vacation vibe resonates with adults, teens, and children alike. The only question will be….. which flavor will you choose?

#2: Shopping at Haskins & Co

Looking for boutique, unique style but prefer not to pay over the top? Find your style at Haskins with a huge selection of inventory that turns over week to week, so you will always find something new. The latest looks in fashion are carried here at reasonable prices. Ladies will truly love the fashion accessories, jeans, athleisure, dresses, jewelry, and even undergarments. It’s one of our favorite shopping gems on the Island.  The price is right and the style is even better.

#3: The Shell Shop

Nothing says tourist like visiting the Shell Shop. The Shell Shop has exotic seashells, nautical merchandise ,and tropical gifts. Gathered from all over the world, as well as Hilton Head, you will find shell novelties, nautical collectibles, and tropical decorative items.

#4: Live Music at The Big Bamboo

One of oldest and most revered nightlife spots on Hilton Head Island, The Big Bamboo often features live music with popular acts. Visit their website to learn more about what’s on their schedule.  Their lunch menu featuring shrimp tacos, hamburgers, big salads, and more are also not to be missed.

#5: POPS

Pops is a family-owned small business bringing retro candy, treats, ice cream, frozen popsicles, and other treats.  Our recommendation? Tell your children in advance what their budget is, or how many items they are allowed to buy. The store is FULL of great candy and other treat options, we think it’s a fun rainy day destination or even a break from the beach and the sun.

#6: Fresh Produce

For three decades, Fresh Produce has been a favorite for women’s clothing that is casual and breezy. Perfect for your island vacation or living, Fresh Produce has clothing that is vibrant and stylish.  Check out their selection of casual dresses, t-shirts, light weight sweaters, and more!

At Coligny Plaza, you will also find a movie theater and plenty of dining options.  There are sports bars, fine dining, quick grab eats, and also, the Piggly Wiggly grocery store. Be sure to visit them online or just plan on making a trip over and meandering through!
