How the Winter Wonderland Festival Got Started
When the Island Recreation Center realized they had an abundance of Christmas lights but no event to kick start the holiday season, they immediately went to work! They wanted to create a child-focused event that was fueled by Christmas spirit. Thus, the Winter Wonderland Festival was born! For years, families have gathered together to enjoy outdoor fun and also donate to the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association Children’s Scholarship Fund.
What to Expect at the Winter Wonderland Festival
Everyone is welcome to partake in the festivities at this holly jolly Christmas celebration! The event begins at 4 p.m. on December 2nd at the Shelter Cove Community Park. Here are just a few of the activities you and your family will want to try:
- Hayrides
- Carnival Games
- Petting Zoo
- Face Painting
- Tree Decorating
- Moon Bounces
- Live Performances
- Children’s Elf Parade
- Golden Candy Cane Hunt
- Meetings with Santa and Mrs. Claus
While the kids are being entertained by all the fun, adults are welcome to help themselves to hot chocolate and smores. A wide variety of other snacks will also be available including pizza, hot dogs, and Christmas treats.
